Frequently Asked Questions
Why change your Battery?
12 volts are needed to create a 15,000 volt spark!
The battery supplies electricity when required to do so and stores it whilst the engine is running.
It is used to start the engine and operate electrical components such as lights, wipers, heated screen, radio etc.
Faulty batteries are one of the main causes of vehicle breakdowns
What causes batteries to wear out?
Batteries wear out when headlights and radio etc are left on when the engine is not running.
Faulty alternators can produce too little or too much charge and can also cause batteries to wear out prematurely.
Poor or faulty connectors can lead to current leakages, causing the battery to discharge more quickly.
Extreme temperatures can damage batteries active material, reducing the conductibility of the electrolyte (water and acid mixture).
This reduces the power of a battery which in turn leads to its deterioration.
It's better to replace a faulty battery now, than break down on a deserted road!
Handling
Handle batteries with acid resistant or leather gloves.
Keep sparks and flames away from batteries and never smoke near a battery.
Never place metal objects on top of the battery because it can cause sparks. Remove rings, chains, and other metallic items before handling.
Keep batteries right side up.
Carry in a non-metallic, leak proof container.
If battery leaks, neutralize any spilled acid with baking soda or calcium carbonate (lime). Flush area with water.
If acid comes in contact with skin, flush area with water immediately, and seek medical attention if burning continues.
