How to identify your tyre?
Every tyre has tyre sidewall markings - what do they mean?
Tyre sidewall markings are simple to understand once you know what to look for.
The name and logo of the tyre manufacturer and the name of the tyre is usually largest on the sidewall and will be clearly visible.
Also dominant is a set of numbers and letters these represent the description of the tyres i.e. size, speed and tread etc.
EXAMPLE - 195/65 R 15 82 T
195 – represents the width of the tyre in millimetres
65 – aspect ratio, this is a percentage figure and is calculated as the height of the sidewall over the tyres width.
R – is tyre construction in this example the tyre is a radial.
15 – rim diameter in inches
82 – is the load capacity index, in this instance 475kg
T - speed rating here 190km per hour.
The tyre age is represented by a four figure DOT code e.g. 0108 is January 2008.
